Introduction to Art Therapy

Amanda specializes in the field of art psychotherapy, utilizing trauma-informed practices with clients suffering from mood and personality disorders. She owns a private practice, Create Flow Heal Art Therapy & Counseling LLC, where she provides art therapy to the community at large.
Amanda Shaw is a licensed mental health counselor in Florida (MH 20223) who is also a board certified art therapist (ATR-BC), certified by the Art Therapy Credentials Board, Inc.Her professional expertise is working in the areas of crisis stabilization, trauma, depression, suicidal ideation, self-harm, mood disorders, eating disorders and anxiety. She has served several populations throughout the east and west coasts of Florida including: Brevard, Miami-Dade, Broward, Pinellas, Manatee, and Hillsborough County areas using art therapy to help individuals process their thoughts, feelings and emotions.
Amanda completed her master’s degree (MA) at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. with an emphasis on trauma-informed care and art psychotherapy. Her research included using bilateral art therapy while working with clients who were suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Her graduate experience included studying abroad in Croatia, providing therapy to orphans and war veterans from the Croatian War of Independence.
Currently, Amanda serves as the Membership Committee Chair for the Florida Art Therapy Association (FATA). She is passionate about advocating for the field of art therapy and dedicated to providing students with the tools needed to pursue their careers.
